Staff Dental Assistant
Summary : Serves as staff dental assistant for routine patient care and with indirect supervision from the lead or supervisory dental assistant or the treating dentist. Responsibilities include but are not limited to : performing assigned selected procedures with some independence, setting up operatory and cleaning dental unit, passing instruments safely and accurately, keeping operative field clear of debris, preparing dental medicaments and impression materials, accomplishing intra-operative procedures within infection control protocols, assisting in routine and specialized dental procedures, maintaining dental equipment, exposing dental imaging, demonstrating proper infection control procedures, and assisting in filling gaps in the doctor's schedule. Work Schedule : Monday-Friday, 0730-1700 (8 or 9 hour shifts available). Compressed / Flexible : Available. Telework : Not Available. Virtual : This is not a virtual position. Qualifications : Basic Requirements : United States Citizenship : Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Experience and Education (1) Experience or (2) Education or (3) Experience and Education Combination. Certification. Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Certification in basic life support methods is highly desirable. Loss of Credential. An employee in this occupation who fails to obtain licensure / certification / registration within the required time frame, or who fails to maintain the required licensure / certification / registration must be removed from the occupation, which may also result in termination of employment. Grandfathering Provision. All persons employed in VHA in this occupation on the effective date of this qualification standard are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the title, series and grade held, including certification that are part of the basic requirements of the occupation.
