Are you passionate about supporting older adults and families in your community? Highlands Ranch is seeking a dedicated Health and Resource Coordinator to lead efforts in connecting residents with vital health services, educational programs, and community resources.

In this dynamic role, you’ll provide information, referrals, and evidence-based programming to promote healthy aging and improve quality of life. You’ll plan and facilitate activities that support socialization, reduce isolation, and enhance cognitive and physical well-being. Working closely with Douglas County agencies, you'll help ensure older adults have access to housing, transportation, benefits, and more—empowering them to age in place with dignity.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProgram Development & Implementation :

  • Identifies needed programs, resources, and services based on resident demand, best practices, and emerging opportunities.
  • Plans, coordinates, and implements health education initiatives, evidence-based programs, health fairs, consumer education, and referrals for older adults and their families.
  • Researches, develops, and maintains partnerships with local health organizations, businesses, colleges, and universities to deliver in-person and virtual programs, events, and screenings.
  • Develops and manages special events, fitness and enrichment programming, and membership oversight in collaboration with staff and volunteers.

Budget & Funding :

  • Develops, manages, and administers program budgets, ensuring alignment with financial guidelines.
  • Solicits and utilizes donations of funds, goods, and services to support programming needs.
  • Collaborates with the Senior Services Manager to research grants, identify new funding opportunities, and prepare grant applications.
  • Assists with evaluating scholarship requests.
  • Supervision & Volunteer Coordination :

  • Supervises instructors, program presenters, and volunteers for both in-person and virtual programs.
  • Maintains instructor certifications and service agreements.
  • Assists with volunteer orientation, training, and ongoing support.
  • Oversees membership registration and volunteer engagement as needed.
  • Technology & Data Management :

  • Manage programs and facility use data through MySeniorCenter and MyActiveCenter platforms.
  • Collects, maintains, and analyzes data, usage, and cost-recovery metrics to inform operational decisions.
  • Maintains a database of service requests (email and phone) and other relevant contacts.
  • Prepares, distributes, and analyzes participant needs assessments, surveys, and program evaluations.
  • Community Engagement & Communication :

  • Acts as a liaison with partner organizations, distributing resources and maintaining relationships through tabling, social media, and outreach.
  • Develops communication and marketing content in collaboration with Community Relations for print and digital platforms.
  • Develops relationships with community service and program providers, serving as a referral resource for older adults and families.
  • Represents the organization at local, regional, and community meetings, fairs, summits, and on subcommittees addressing senior issues (e.g., transportation, housing, health, aging).
  • Serves as a spokesperson on senior-related topics.
  • Operations & Facility Support :

  • Supports day-to-day operations of the Senior Center, including opening / closing responsibilities.
  • Performs general office tasks and special assignments as directed by the Senior Services Manager.
  • Provides first aid as required and responds to member issues or concerns.
  • Fills in for other Senior Services staff when needed.
  • Compliance & Additional Responsibilities :

  • Ensures compliance with all District and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Assists with contracting or coordinating immunization services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Desired Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in gerontology, recreation or closely related field.
  • Two years of practical experience in a field providing an understanding of aging issues.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience and / or through work experiences with senior adults, families and community organizations, certifications related to care of and / or specific disease processes.
  • External marketing and public speaking experience helpful.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • CPR / AED, First Aid, Crowd Control and ServSafe Food Handler certification required or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months.
  • Necessary Knowledge, Experience, Skills and AbilitiesCommunication Skills :

  • Demonstrated excellence in verbal, written, and presentation skills, enabling clear and effective communication with diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities to represent the Metro District effectively to the community.
  • Active listening skills and the ability to speak and write effectively across various platforms and contexts.
  • Customer Service & Community Engagement :

  • Service-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to helping others and meeting community needs.
  • Skilled in customer service, with knowledge of human behavior and community dynamics, especially as they relate to older adults.
  • Familiarity with laws related to elder care (e.g., Mandatory Reporting of Elder Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation).
  • Knowledge of community resources and how to access them; established relationships with aging professionals and organizations.
  • Program Development & Subject Matter Expertise :

  • Strong interest in and understanding of aging trends and the evolving health and wellness needs of older adults.
  • Ability and desire to develop relevant programs and provide services tailored to aging populations.
  • Technology Skills :

  • Basic computer skills and knowledge, including smart phones, tablets, etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant computer software applications such as MySeniorCenter, ADP, VoIP.
  • Organizational & Professional Skills :

  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills; able to prioritize tasks and meet goals effectively.
  • Dependable, responsible, honest, ethical, and reliable work style.
  • Ability to self-direct and manage job responsibilities independently while also cooperating with others and accepting direction.
  • Willingness to take on additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Flexible and adaptable in coordinating duties and responding to changing demands.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials of the public and vendors.
  • Represent the District in a professional manner, exemplifying integrity and excellence always.
  • Skilled in operating the listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties listed above.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours, when necessary, which includes evenings and weekends throughout the metro area.

    Works under the general supervision of the Senior Services Manager.

    Supervision Exercised

    Provides supervision and assistance in coordination of volunteers and interns for health and resource events, and contracts with program providers and presenters.

    Tools and Equipment Used

    Computers, related hardware, Microsoft Windows 10 Pro, Adobe, Microsoft products (Excel, Forms, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Word, etc.), web and database software, multi-line VoIP phone, and MySeniorCenter kiosk. Kitchen and general office equipment such as desk phone, multi-function printer / scanner / copier, plotter, web-fax, etc.

    Work Schedule

    This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week, mainly Monday through Friday in the office. Due to the nature of this position, the work schedule will vary depending on weather conditions, projects, events, programs, meetings, and staffing levels, and will include some evening, early morning, and weekend hours. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
