IT Systems Engineer

Job Summary

The Systems Engineer (SE) is responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of server hardware and software. The SE participates in technical research and development to allow for ongoing technical innovation. The SE ensures that system hardware, operating and software systems, and related procedures comply with regulatory and security standards. The SE assists the IT Manager with the implementation and ongoing testing of the organization’s disaster recovery plan.

Additionally, under the general direction of the IT manager, the SE plans, implements, and monitors security protocols to maintain the integrity of the company networks, data, and security related equipment. Provides advanced-level maintenance and support of network and core IT related systems. Configures and supports security tools to monitor networks. Provides technical assistance to end users and Information Technology staff members.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Engineering of technical solutions for various projects and operational needs
• Monitors and maintains appropriate access and security levels throughout active directory, servers, LAN / WAN, and other security related equipment.
• Research and recommend automated approaches for system administrative tasks.
• Monitors system and security logs, activity and network traffic for suspicious behavior and intrusion; performs remediation tasks, as necessary.
• Develops network policies, security standards and authorization roles for users to adhere to in defense against unauthorized access, modifications, and data destruction.
• Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems, databases, and system data are successfully backed up.
• Test recovery process on a periodic basis, and archive backup sets in accordance with company policy and industry best practices.
• Develops and implements disaster recovery plans with direction from the IT manager to safeguard data from accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure.
