Summary :

The custodial professional is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment throughout the school campus. This includes performing general cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, and other common areas. The custodian is also tasked with managing waste disposal, replenishing supplies, and ensuring the proper upkeep of school facilities. In addition, the custodian may assist with minor maintenance tasks and help set up for events or special activities. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining a positive and healthy learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities :

Custodial staff are responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the school. Their duties include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting classrooms, hallways, offices, restrooms, and other facilities, as well as cleaning windows, walls, and ceilings when needed. They sanitize high-touch surfaces and ensure proper waste disposal and recycling. Staff also monitor building conditions, report maintenance needs, and assist with setting up or breaking down furniture for events. They help ensure school security by locking up after hours and following all safety protocols, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals. Custodians manage and organize supplies, collaborate with school staff, and communicate facility concerns to administration. They provide support for events by setting up and cleaning up equipment. Minor repairs, painting, and other basic maintenance tasks are performed as needed, with larger issues reported accordingly. All responsibilities are carried out in alignment with school and district policies, with ongoing participation in safety training and professional development. Additionally, staff support campus monitoring, engage with the school community, and contribute to a safe and supportive environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Education :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical or certifications in a related field preferred.
  • Experience :

  • Related experience preferred.
  • Skills :

  • Ability to maintain positivity and professionalism
  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors.
  • Knowledge of general carpentry and repair.
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
  • Detail-oriented and thorough.
  • Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance.
  • Ability to keep the school clean and orderly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
  • Creative analytical and problem-solving skills.
