About the College / Unit / Department

The Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery consists of 50 faculty members, 50 clinical residents, 10 rotating interns, 8 specialty interns, and 3 administrative staff members. Shared laboratory space and technical support are provided within the department, and there are 7 dedicated research technicians who assist in the research missions of the department's faculty. Other specialties within the department include anesthesia, dermatology, internal medicine, nutrition, medical and radiation oncology, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, radiology, soft tissue surgery, and zoological medicine, as well as a community practice program ( UGA Pet Health Center). The Department participates in the college-wide M.S. and Ph.D. programs. Members of the department also actively participate in highly successful collaborative efforts with faculty members from other departments within the college and other colleges on campus, including the College of Public Health, College of Engineering, and the Athens campus of the Medical College of Georgia. The department has a strong track record for teaching, research, and clinical service.

Only an hour from Atlanta, Athens is a progressive locale with a rich history, and is centered among beautiful surrounding landscapes.
