Position Summary

The Field Operations Manager oversees all Field and Shop operations at Mr. Crane, driving operational excellence, safety, and resource utilization across jobsites. This role is instrumental in coaching, mentoring, and directing team leaders and their personnel to align operations with business objectives while instilling a culture of safety, efficiency, and proactive project planning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following :

  • Manage and develop the following team leaders and their staff, which may include :

Senior Dispatcher

  • Dispatcher
  • Crane Superintendent
  • A / D Director
  • Iron Worker Superintendent
  • Supervise and develop field operations leadership and staff. Cultivate high standards of productivity, safety, and professionalism.
  • Partner with Sales, Dispatch, and the Safety Team to conduct pre-assembly site visits or photo reviews the day prior to mobilization. Confirm readiness of jobsite access, layout, and identification of hazards (overhead, underground, or public-related).
  • Ensure daily job readiness : verify equipment support, lift plans, rigging, crane mats, street plates, manlifts, forklifts, spreader bars, and related logistics are properly scheduled and resourced.
  • Promote and implement Safety Best Practices in alignment with Risk Management, ensuring full safety policy adherence and fostering a culture of continuous safety awareness.
  • Manage equipment inspection protocols. Ensure daily inspections are completed thoroughly, with proper documentation (equipment number, hours, and dates).
  • Act as first responder to all crane-related incidents. Coordinate with Safety to investigate and document root causes.
  • Assist sales team during job walks. Help coordinate timelines and special rigging requirements.
  • Maintain active communication with Local 12 representatives and be aware of union-specific work practices and expectations.
  • Manage rigging inventory and inspection processes for compliance and availability.
  • Oversee resource allocation, including cranes, operators, oilers, riggers, and support personnel. Optimize utilization and minimize non-billable time.
  • Monitor financial and operational performance, implementing strategies to reduce operating expenses and maximize productivity.
  • Guide and implement company initiatives while continuously improving systems and workflows.
  • Maintain operational oversight of Mr. Crane and San Bernardino yards to ensure they are structured for efficiency and readiness.
  • Engage Operators and Oilers in company core values. Follow up with customers for feedback and improvement opportunities.
  • Uphold standards of quality and customer satisfaction. Ensure our work areas exceed expectations and leave lasting positive impressions.
  • Collaborate with the Service Department to plan maintenance schedules for cranes, trucks, trailers, and support equipment.
  • Support Dispatch in reviewing and approving timecards, delivery vouchers, and personnel scheduling.

    REQUIRED

    Financial Acumen : Ability to read budgets, manage operating costs, and identify cost-reduction opportunities.

    Technology : Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and integrated systems relevant to operations and logistics.

    Interpersonal Style : Approachable, credible, and resilient in high-stakes situations.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    PREFERED

    EDUCATION

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or University or equivalent, relevant work experience.

    EXPERIENCE

    Minimum 5–7 years of management experience in field operations, preferably in heavy equipment, crane rental, or construction environments.

    LICENSE

    Valid Driver’s License

    CDL-A and Crane Operator’s License (to step in when needed in emergency situations).

Jobsite work may be performed in a noisy work environment.
