    ABOUT THE POSITION :

    The Safety Manager applies advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts, and manages all company safety programs. Leads management and employees alike on environmental health, ergonomic, and safety related opportunities; by providing support and technical assistance in the administration of and compliance with federal, state, local, and company Environmental Health and Safety requirements. Recommends, develops, implements, and monitors programs that maintain safe and healthy working conditions. Promotes protection against accidents, environmental illnesses and injuries and assists in the communication and implementation of safety and environmental health procedures. Develops and maintains production training tools to orient new employees to Oberto and assist manufacturing management in the implementation of safety programs and policies.

    SCHEDULE : Day shift position 8 : 00am – 5 : 00pm schedule is flexible

    Wage : $120,000.00 - $130,000.00 annually, annual bonus paid up to 20% of your annual salary, subject to all required taxes and withholdings.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans and implements safety policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with local, state (DOSH) and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Leads and coordinates the workers compensation process, including partnering with the third-party administrator, HR, management, and the injured worker. In partnership with Operations, works to ensure the prompt return-to-work of any injured employee.
  • Identifies and interprets regulatory standards that impact operational exposures and business activities and guide needed plans to ensure compliance.
  • Leads the development of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) for employee job training. Manages all JHA document control activities.
  • Identifies and evaluates hazardous conditions and practices, developing practices and programs to correct and reduce their occurrence.
  • Reviews and analyzes company accidents and historical claim experience to identify frequency or severity problems and loss trends. Conduct improvement projects based on findings to improve overall employee environmental health and safety. Maintains, generates, and files OSHA 300 logs.
  • Develops, manages, and communicates best practices and tools that enhances compliance.
  • Conducts regular safety compliance audits and provides management reports outlining results and recommendations for improvement.
  • Partners with management to ensure the facility stays in compliance with DOSH and OSHA Standards.
  • Manages audit and incident corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence through relentless root cause analysis.
  • Establishes measuring devices for safety performance throughout the facility by motivating individual accountability and reinforcing safety as a critical part of the culture.
  • Investigates and responds to employee safety concerns and workers compensation claims to provide high quality internal customer service.
  • Trains and coach managers and supervisors on behavior-based strategies, accident investigation, hazard identification and self-inspection.
  • Coordinates safety training and awareness programs such as Safety Orientations, First Aid and CPR classes, forklift and pallet truck certification, hazardous energy control, and fire extinguisher training.
  • Completes safety record keeping tasks including maintaining emergency evacuation rosters, toolbox talks, training program employee signoffs, and proper MSDS inventory.
  • Ensures compliance with all employee meeting requirements; coordinate with the safety committee members to increase awareness and employee participation.
  • All other related duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health or related field preferred or equivalent experience.
  • OSHA 10 Certification preferred.
  • OSHA 30 Certification preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a Safety role supporting manufacturing preferred.
  • OSHA and / or State rules and regulations.
  • Safety and Health concerns specific to food processing.
  • Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Adult learning theory and training methodology.
  • Project management concepts and techniques.
  • Safety policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Well-developed writing skills
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Second language a plus.
  • Strong natural leadership skills.
  • Demonstrates high standards and quality in all endeavors, solid work ethic.
  • Ability to communicate concepts and give clear direction across all levels of company.
  • Team player.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Serve as a team member, facilitator and / or leader as the team role warrants.
  • Manage and motivate employees in a team-based environment.
  • Prepare a variety of comprehensive administrative and technical documents and reports.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to management, regulatory agencies, and other representatives of external organizations.
  • Assist in developing capital improvement cost / benefit analyses and subsequent forms.
  • Work effectively in a general business environment, with a focus on high levels of quality and customer service.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

    Work environment is that of an office environment. This employee regularly works with office equipment, materials, chemicals, wet floors and with wet equipment when on the production floor. This employee work around high voltage, hot water, and steam

  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • Physical work including climbing stairs, etc.
  • Willing to work in a various-temperature environment
  • Ability to handle items weighting under 25lbs or may need to move objects safely and with proper body mechanics.
  • Ability to frequently talk, hear, and smell
  • Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus
