Summary :
Seeking a proactive and community-minded Coordinator of External Relations to support the organization's strategic outreach and engagement efforts. This role plays a vital part in fostering meaningful relationships with stakeholders and advancing the university's presence and partnerships within the community.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Assist in the development, coordination, and execution of community outreach strategies and programs.
- Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, nonprofit partners, civic groups, and neighborhood associations.
- Represent the organization at public meetings, forums, and community events to promote visibility and goodwill.
- Draft and distribute outreach materials including newsletters, talking points, and email communications.
- Support the creation of digital and print content that showcases the organization's community impact.
- Ensure messaging is consistent with the organization's mission and brand voice.
- Assist in organizing and executing community events, volunteer initiatives, and sponsorship opportunities.
- Manage event logistics, including venue arrangements, vendor coordination, materials prep, and guest communications.
- Support post-event evaluations and reporting to measure engagement and effectiveness.
- Maintain updated records of community contacts, partners, and engagement activities.
- Track and follow up on community inquiries, event participation, and partnership requests.
- Collaborate with internal teams to align community initiatives with broader organizational goals.
- Provide administrative assistance to the Director of Community Affairs and or the Director of Civic Engagement, including scheduling, documentation, and meeting coordination.
- Assist with preparation of reports, presentations, and data tracking to measure outreach and engagement efforts.
- Support planning and tracking of program budgets, grants, and sponsorships.
- Help manage internal volunteer initiatives and employee community involvement.
- Assist in identifying and evaluating sponsorships, charitable contributions, and other community investments.
- Stay informed on community trends, emerging needs, and public concerns relevant to the organization's mission.
- Conduct community surveys, feedback sessions, and informal assessments to inform strategy.
- Identify opportunities to increase organizational impact through responsive and inclusive engagement in key counties throughout Alabama.
- Integrate community outreach initiatives into graduate student academic and development activities. Launch data collection project.
- Assist in engaging Engage community-based organizations, civic organizations, and Alumni through expanded outreach and external community activities. Initiate programs that match University competencies with community needs.
- Promote and increase university wide public service activities, which include faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners in outreach and engagement efforts.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.) :
