About the Job

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Windows Systems Administrator to join us in our Houston office as part of the Technical Operations team. This individual will recommend, develop, configure, install, monitor, and support operating systems and server hardware for the Company's Windows based servers.

What You'll Do | Key Accountabilities

  • Assist with ensuring the availability of client / server applications
  • Develop processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment
  • Diagnose, resolve, and document hardware, software, and network problems
  • Automate building, managing and configuration of Windows Servers and VMware hosts
  • Build and install Windows based servers and related software, including recommending and requisitioning hardware / software, building hardware, operating system install, patch updates, and the physical installation of servers into the data center environment
  • Create and maintain server images based on best business practices and the Company's specific requirements, allowing for faster and consistent server development
  • Architect, design, and support a diverse VMWare environment and related computing environment including systems software, applications software, and all configurations
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to protect data, software, and hardware
  • Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks
  • Gather customer needs data, identify, predict, interpret, evaluate system and network requirements
  • Maintain accurate inventory of systems including warranty and maintenance information, patch levels, backup information, and other data required to manage servers in a protective environment
  • Install patches and upgrade server hardware, firmware, and Windows based operating systems
  • Monitor functions of Windows based servers to ensure appropriate levels of operation including problem analysis and correction, reporting performance metrics, and identifying potential problems
  • Document the server environment in detail including disaster recovery procedures, environmental diagrams, build information, deployment procedures, and other documentation as required
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to peers on a prompt and ongoing basis relative to departmental policies, procedures, and specific operational aspects of cost containment

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • Candidate must have 3+ years working experience with server hardware and Microsoft operating system installation in a complex domain environment
  • Experience with HP blade servers strongly preferred
  • Candidate must have 3+ years of installation, configuration, and support of VMWare virtual infrastructure software including physical server to virtual server conversions, virtual migrations using VMotion, and load balancing through VMWare DRS
  • Development experience with scripting-based languages like but not limited to Powershell, Python, Perle is a must
  • General knowledge of SAN technologies and connecting servers to these types of storage systems
  • Working knowledge of network switches and protocols
  • Strong understanding of network technologies such as DNS, proxy appliances, and Firewalls
  • Strong problem determination, resolution, and documentation skills imperative
  • Experienced in Microsoft patch management and deployment in a 300+ server environment
  • Ability to work well independently to provide complex and expert operational, administrative, and project support to an enterprise environment
  • Ability to display effective human and interpersonal relations skills during collaborative efforts
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally, and in writing, with management and other departments within Technology
  • Ability to work non-standard business hours when required, including participation in a 24 / 7 on-call rotation as well as travel between multiple locations daily
  • Work Environment, Physical & Mental Demands

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, and reach daily
  • Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Must utilize visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment
  • Hours regularly 40 hours per week
