MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER / Machine Designer

Location : Downers Grove, IL

Job type and Duration : Permanent / Full-Time

Our client, a major Custom Manufacturing Machine builder, is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with Machine Design Experience to join their Engineering team in Downers Grove, IL .

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leading the design and release of mechanical projects
  • Applying sound engineering and machine design principles to design custom-engineered equipment
  • Creating, modifying, and updating all mechanical drawings and BOM's
  • Analyzing existing designs and providing recommendations for improvements
  • Mentoring other engineers and designers on best practices for machine design
  • Performing independent site inspections and supervising equipment installation
  • Participating in brainstorming and design reviews
  • Delivering projects on time and within budget
  • Working with shop assembly personnel in troubleshooting & debugging of equipment
  • Assisting in the checking of drawings and analyzing tolerance stack-ups
  • Assisting in developing engineering and drafting standards
  • Issuing and completing ECO's

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Degree is not required)
  • to years of experience designing custom machines and industrial equipment
  • Driven and ambitious personality with attention to detail
  • A creative, innovative, and forward-thinking approach to engineering design
  • Excellent problem-solving skills in a team-oriented environment
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, and general fabrication
  • A machining / fabrication background is a plus
  • Field experience, customer site audits, and experience supervising installations are a plus
  • Strong CAD D and D proficiency required, Inventor is preferred
  • Experience with GD&T is preferred
  • FEA experience is a plus
