Core Lab Supervisor - Weekends Linden, NJ 100% Onsite Saturday & Sunday 11am-7 : 30pm Position Summary The Core Laboratory Weekend Supervisor provides onsite leadership for all core laboratory operations during weekend shifts. This role ensures high-quality, timely, and compliant testing services across Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis (and other assigned sections), while supervising bench staff and coordinating with nursing, physicians, and ancillary departments. The Weekend Supervisor acts as the operational authority for the lab on weekends, supporting patient care through strong technical oversight, real-time troubleshooting, and staff mentorship. Key Responsibilities Operational & Technical Leadership Supervise daily weekend core lab workflow to ensure accurate and efficient testing. Monitor turnaround times, specimen integrity, and instrument performance; take corrective action as needed. Serve as the escalation point for technical issues, QC failures, LIS / interface problems, and specimen concerns. Perform and / or verify moderate and high complexity testing per CLIA, CAP, and state requirements. Support validation, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of analyzers and automation lines. Quality & Compliance Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and hospital policies during weekend operations. Review QC / QA trends, proficiency testing (PT) performance, and corrective action documentation. Document and investigate incidents, variances, and nonconformities; initiate follow-up as appropriate. Maintain readiness for inspections and support audit activities. People Supervision & Staffing Lead, coach, and support weekend MLS / MLT / Phlebotomy staff (as applicable). Assign workload based on volume and skill mix; adjust staffing in real time. Approve / coordinate call-offs, reassignments, and emergency coverage. Provide on-the-spot training, competency reinforcement, and performance feedback. Partner with weekday supervisors / manager to communicate weekend issues, staffing needs, and improvement opportunities. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field. ASCP (MLS / MT / MLT) or equivalent national certification required. Minimum 3–5 years of Core Lab experience in a hospital or high-volume clinical lab. Demonstrated competence in Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, and Urinalysis. Prior lead, senior tech, or supervisory experience strongly preferred. Core Competencies Strong technical judgment and real-time problem solving.
