Physical Therapist Assistant

Job Summary : Provides clinical patient care by administering appropriate treatment. Completes patient records in a timely manner. Provides instruction (teaching) to patients and / or family members.

Minimum Education : Associate's Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant from an accredited program.

Licensure, Registration and / or Certification : Valid State of Oklahoma Licensure in Physical Therapist Assistant

Work Experience : 0 - 6 months related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Ability to use computers, basic computer knowledge, as needed for data input and reporting. Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Effective time management skills.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities :

• Provides clinical patient care by administering appropriate treatment.
• Progresses patient treatment as appropriate.
• Assists RPT in modifying and re-setting functional goals.
• Carries patient load that reflects productivity standards.
• Provides documentation by : maintaining appropriate treatment records; completing accurate daily patient charge sheets.
• Completes patient records in a timely (same day) manner.
• Accurately reflects time spent and procedures performed as well as equipment issued in patient charges.
• Maintains technical (education) expertise through : attendance and participation in continuing education activities; and departmental in-services.
• Attends 95% of scheduled in-services and departmental meetings.
• Attends one off-campus continuing-education activity per year.
• Provides instruction (teaching) to patients and / or family members.
• Follows care path guidelines for patient / family education and documentation of home programs.
• Teaches patient / family member proper use of equipment issued.
• Follows set guidelines for daily operations.
• Schedules and prioritizes daily work assignments.
• Delegates, as appropriate, to support personnel basic patient treatments to follow through with.
• Assists with PT volunteers and RPTA students as requested by (in-charge) therapist.
• Consistent and correct time-care utilization.
• Decision Making : Independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited and standard policies / protocols have been established.
• Working Relationships : Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Works directly with patients and / or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
