Job Title
We have 1 opening for an 8-hour, 12-month employee in the MOTF Department. The work hours for this position are 6 : 00 a.m. to 2 : 30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Basic Function : Under general supervision, to assist in the planning, scheduling, and leading of grounds maintenance personnel; to inspect, review, and evaluate the grounds maintenance operation and activities; to provide input concerning unusual grounds maintenance functions and activities; and to do other related work as required.
Examples Of Duties
Essential Job Functions : Establishes work crew priorities, organizes, schedules, coordinates, and participates in the maintenance of school grounds and related facilities. Inspects grounds and landscaped areas to ensure against safety hazards and improper preventative maintenance. Evaluates the grounds and landscaped areas and determines pruning, irrigation, and fertilization needs, and weed, insect, and pest control tasks. Operates a variety of power grounds equipment, including mowers, tractors, trenchers, backhoe equipment, sweepers and similar equipment. May assist in the lay out of sprinkler and irrigation systems. May participate in sprinkler and irrigation system installation and maintenance. Leads and participates in the preparation of grounds areas, including the construction of forms and headers, for concrete and asphalt application. Leads and participates in the inspection, repair and maintenance of playground and athletic field equipment and fixtures, which may include welding, straightening, and metal fabrication. Schedules and maintains a grounds preventative maintenance program. Sprays for weeds and insect control. Requisitions supplies, materials, and equipment. Maintains a variety of records pertaining to grounds maintenance activities, time and material costs, and personnel performance data. Provides technical input into the performance appraisal of grounds personnel. Drives a service vehicle to and from work sites.
Job Requirements Qualifications : Skills, Knowledge and / or Abilities Required : Skill to : Operate power driven grounds maintenance equipment. Make minor adjustments and repairs on the equipment. Operate the variety hand and power-tools and related equipment utilized in improvement, cultivation and care of landscaped areas. Organize, instruct and assess the work of assigned grounds personnel. Knowledge of : Operation, use, and maintenance of grounds maintenance equipment. Methods, techniques, supplies, materials, and equipment utilized in grounds maintenance functions and activities. Sprinkler and irrigation systems. Common fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides. Principles of organization, coordination, and employee motivation. Safe working methods and procedures. Ability to : Lead grounds maintenance workers and perform technical grounds maintenance tasks. Skillfully and effectively operate a variety of grounds maintenance equipment and tools. Typical Qualifications
Experience and Education Requirement : Experience : Three years of experience in grounds maintenance or related work, preferably including one year in a lead or supervisory capacity. Education : Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, including training or coursework in landscape maintenance functions and in the use of common fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides. License and / or Certificate Requirement : Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Condition of Employment : DMV Printout - Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier.

Physical Demands : The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects of this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions. Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 75 to 100 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This type of work may involve ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps, and will involve reaching, bending, stooping, walking or standing for extended periods. Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far visual acuity, depth perception providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate equipment and use hand tools, and manipulate and handle various materials and objects are important aspects of this job. Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, dusty or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced as well as exposure to pollen and chemicals. Qualified applicants, who meet the minimum qualifications, will participate in a written examination and technical oral interview, which will demonstrate the required knowledge and skill for this classification. The weight percentage of the examination and interview will be 50 / 50. Those applicants who receive a passing score on the written exam and oral interview will be placed on an Eligibility List. The top three ranks of candidates on the Eligibility List, who are ready, willing and able to accept the position, will be invited to the Final Selection Interview with the hiring authority.
The eligibility list will be certified for a period of six months. It will be used to fill current substitute and future permanent openings.

Benefits : Permanent employees will receive paid holidays, sick leave, vacation and longevity benefits per contract or Commission Rules. The District offers a comprehensive package of insurance benefits. Employees working less than full-time, but a minimum of four hours will contribute an amount proportionate to the number of assigned work hours for major medical insurance benefits. The District does not offer a package of insurance benefits to employees working less than four hours per day. The District provides life insurance for employees who work a minimum of 3.5 hours. In addition, the District offers a retirement plan which uses joint employee and employer contributions.
