Summary

In alignment with Gift of Life Michigan's core purpose and core values, the Development Officer contributes to organizational and department strategic planning and execution. The incumbent achieves annual and long-range fundraising goals through collaboration with Gift of Life leadership to promote the Michigan Organ Donor Registry, enhance educational efforts about organ and tissue donation, and assist the donation and transplantation community. The Development Officer's primary responsibility is the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of individuals, organizations, and corporations to achieve Gift of Life's fundraising goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

The following job duties and responsibilities are stated in broad terms and not intended to be inclusive.

• Develop and execute a strategic vision and plan for Gift of Life fundraising efforts, in line with the organization's mission and vision. Be accountable for the achievement of the plan and its supporting goals.
• Direct the operations of the Development Department, prioritize objectives, and implement strategies to achieve department goals and KPIs.
• Identify, cultivate, and solicit financial gifts to Gift of Life from individuals, organizations, and corporations. Document and report on this activity.
• Lead the engagement and cultivation of the Advancement Task Force, a group of individuals committed to furthering our network and philanthropic support.
• Conduct at least 120 personal visits with prospects and donors per year, and participate in a minimum of 24 major gift ($10,000 or more) solicitations per year.
• Gather data, assess prospects, and develop strategies designed to realize the current and life-time giving potential of prospects.
• Ensure consistent and appropriate contact, facilitate, or make solicitations.
• Develop and maintain an astute awareness of social, business, and philanthropic cultures within Michigan, and serve as an expert liaison for Gift of Life's mission.
• Chair the committee for the annual Champions Gala.
• Gain a comprehensive understanding of the priorities of Gift of Life and growing the Michigan Organ Donor Registry and make a persuasive verbal and written case for supporting key programs and projects, effectively matching the interests of prospects to specific Gift of Life needs.
• Develop materials used by Gift of Life leaders for meetings, visits, or individual contacts.
• Develop and monitor a working budget for the department.
• Champion inter- and cross-department changes focused on innovation, gaining efficiencies, and increasing productivity in support of the organization's mission.
• Collaborate to increase the visibility of Gift of Life throughout the state through strategic partnerships, events, and special initiatives.
• Participate in assigned internal committees, work groups, and project teams as appropriate.
• Represent Gift of Life through attendance at conferences and participation in local and national organizations and committees.
• Participate in peer-to-peer collaboration with other organ procurement organizations and partners for best practice sharing and learning.
• Develop, maintain, and implement policies and procedures for fund development to ensure compliance with financial requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct reports at this time but may work with other leaders in the division to direct the activities of division staff.
