Job Description

Reporting to the Safe Passage Co-Director, the Community Violence Interrupter will be assigned to schools to build trust and foster relationships with students, families, and community members. The Community Violence Interrupters mediate conflicts, work to prevent incidents, and provide a safe space for students to turn to when needed. Their presence helps create a sense of security and support, especially in situations where conflict might arise.

Essential Responsibilities :

Violence Interrupters are required to adhere to strict and unified protocols.

Be on call for Critical Incident notification and deployment to incidents including community locations and hospitals with specific protocols :

Be willing to provide Critical Incident assessment and Violence Interruption on-site.

Participate in rigorous team pre-brief to plan for safe and protocol-driven deployments

Review and refine the protocol

Develop team plan for specific “hotspot” remediation

Confirm coverage and staffing plan

Participate in team debriefs follow-up to engage and support youth / young adults directly impacted by violence

Participate in weekly “hot spot” remediation efforts in partnership with Outreach Workers

K eep track of youth engaged so that Managers / Leads can refer the youth into the suite of services.

Participate as an integral member of a multiple-team communication strategy

Attend weekly supervision meetings to review workload, highlight successes, and find solutions to challenges

Attend mandatory team meetings to go over protocols, hot-spot remediation, and social network analysis of youth engaged or involved in new incidents

Provide and maintain records for data and tracking reports

Attend all required training and professional development opportunities

Maintain confidentiality as per agency guidelines

Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Requirements :

A clear criminal background check is required for all positions within our school district or working directly with youth / minors .

While on the job in the community providing services, you will be in uniform (shirts, hoodies, badges, walkie-talkies, etc.)

While on duty, you will be on call for potential incidences of violence including hospital support, vigils, funerals, and community events, including on evenings and weekends.

Ability to walk long distances at a time with up to 30lbs of equipment.

Preferred Experience or Skills :

Experience with de-escalation, mediation, and harm-reduction efforts is required.

Experience and / or expertise in the area of violence prevention and intervention, or trauma-informed support services among high-risk populations is required.

Lived experience of the impact of gun violence

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to safeguard and maintain individual records to keep participant files complete, confidential, and in order.

Basic knowledge for Microsoft 365
