Job Summary
- The Director of Admissions / Registration provides leadership and direction for all aspects of the patient access function including admissions, registration, financial counseling, scheduling, insurance verification, and patient information integrity. This position ensures efficient, courteous, and compliant access processes that support clinical operations and revenue cycle performance. The Director collaborates with hospital departments, physicians, and administration to optimize service delivery and promote patient satisfaction.
Essential Functions
Oversees and manages all functions of the patient access department including inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services registrationEnsures accurate patient demographic and insurance information collectionDevelops, implements, and monitors policies and procedures to support regulatory compliance, data integrity, and timely processingManages staffing, scheduling, hiring, orientation, and performance evaluation for access personnelMonitors departmental KPIs, productivity, and customer service metricsEnsures staff competency in all aspects of registration, financial clearance, and patient communicationCoordinates with clinical and financial departments to resolve access-related issuesPrepares departmental reports and participates in budget planning and resource managementResponds to patient and family concerns related to registration and financial processesPromotes a culture of service excellence and continuous improvementKnowledge / Skills / Abilities / Expectations
In-depth understanding of patient access and revenue cycle operationsStrong leadership, team development, and communication skillsProficient in hospital information systems, EHRs, and Microsoft Office applicationsKnowledge of HIPAA regulations, CMS guidelines, and payer requirementsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, regulated environmentPrimarily office-based role with frequent computer useOccasional walking, standing, and lifting of materials up to 25 poundsAdministrative and clinical access areas within a hospital settingMay require flexible hours including early mornings or weekendsQualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field requiredMaster’s degree preferredLicenses / Certifications
Relevant certifications (e.g., CHAM or CHAA) preferredCertifications must be obtained within time frame required by facility policyExperience
Minimum five (5) years of hospital patient access, admissions, or revenue cycle experience requiredMinimum three (3) years of management or supervisory experience required
