Clerk Tax Collector

Tax Collector Clerks are responsible for the collection and processing of tax payments related to properties in East Baton Rouge Parish and providing information to the public and property related entities regarding the taxes due, adjudication, and redemption of real estate.

Job Duties :

• Process customer's payments over the counter, which include managing a cash drawer.
• Balance register daily and produce the daily transaction report for Treasury.
• Answer the phones and questions regarding property taxes.
• Process the payments received by mail daily.
• Provide quality service to all customers. This may include walking them to the Assessor's Office or Clerk of Court to assist in handling Tax Office business.
• Figure and send via fax or email redemption bills upon request.
• Research property payment history to determine if prior year taxes are paid in order to update TCM.
• Prepare bills and receive proper approval from the Parish Attorney prior to accepting payment for adjudicated properties.
• Type and prepare notice of tax sale letters to mail to all interested parties once the property has been abstracted.
• Scan all documents related to the abstracted property including the returned notice of tax sale letters.

Qualifications : High School Diploma, one year of full-time work experience (or 30 semester hours of college); excellent in-person customer service skills; proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; Able to perform general clerical duties such as filing, typing, and faxing; able to maintain confidentiality of information
