Job Title : Phlebotomist IJob Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and recommend improvements for workflow efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate and update patient information as necessary.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Clearly explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collections, such as urine or fecal, as required.
• Demonstrate the technique using straight needles and / or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physician orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against the script to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers / tubes, and label accurately.
• Follow different procedures as required by specific protocol to maintain the integrity of the specimen.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Matthews, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.50 / hr.
