The Lab Assistant works under the supervision of faculty members to assist students with auto body repair techniques, equipment operation, and coursework. This position requires adherence to standardized safety protocols and the professionalism to serve as a role model for WCC students.
The part time auto body lab assistant will play a critical role in fostering a safe and professional learning environment, ensuring students follow industry-standard safety protocols while using tools, equipment, and materials in all lab-based courses.
Additionally, lab assistants must conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times to serve as a positive role model for WCC students , demonstrating ethical behavior, workplace professionalism, and industry best practices.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities :
The Part-Time Automotive Services Laboratory Assistant will :
Observe, coach, and assist students in completing homework assignments, lab exercises, and class projects.Prepare and maintain lab environments, including setup, breakdown, and organization of lab spaces, tools, and equipment.Ensure a safe laboratory environment by enforcing OSHA and SDS safety standards, including proper use of PPE and hazardous materials handling.Support faculty needs by assisting instructors with lab demonstrations, instructional materials, and equipment setup.Maintain, troubleshoot, and conduct minor repairs on laboratory equipment to ensure functionality.Monitor inventory levels and procure supplies, including classroom, laboratory, and maintenance materials using scan tools and inventory software.Assist in student recruitment efforts, including visiting high schools and participating in outreach programs with a focus on underrepresented student populations.Participate in college promotional events, skills competitions, and community engagement activities.Maintain an organized and professional work environment to support student learning and program success.Perform other duties as assigned by the department or supervising faculty.Physical Demands :
Must be capable of lifting and transporting at least 50 pounds.Must be able to stand and move for approximately two-thirds of the time and remain stationary for the remaining one-third.
Hours and Schedule :
Hours vary based on class schedules, including daytime, evening, and weekend hours.Employment is contingent on course enrollment and institutional needs.Minimum Qualifications : Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Must have a high school diploma or GED plus 30 college level credits.One-year related work experience.Current driver license with clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications : Additional Preferred Qualifications :
Associate degree in Automotive Body Repair or a closely related field.ASE or State of Michigan certifications in related automotive specialties.
Experience working in an educational laboratory setting, assisting with hands-on technical instruction.Knowledge of diagnostic tools, scan tools, and inventory management software.Familiarity with OSHA and SDS safety requirements.Experience in student recruitment, mentoring, or community outreach.Posting Date : Closing Date : Open Until Filled Yes
