About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to serve as a key legal advisor and member of the Executive Management Team. The successful candidate will have a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school, be a member of the South Carolina Bar, and have at least 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney. The role involves supervising and leading a team of attorneys in conducting legal research, preparing legal documents, and representing the company in major litigation. The General Counsel will also provide legal advice and support to the State Director, Deputy Directors, and other senior managers, and will be involved in formulating and administering legal and policy matters. Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should have a strong background in legal research, and be capable of preparing complex legal memoranda and opinions. The role requires a candidate with excellent leadership and supervisory skills, as they will be responsible for overseeing the legal staff and ensuring that appropriate legal services are available to support the company's management and staff. Experience as a DSS Attorney is preferred. The General Counsel must be able to communicate effectively, work after hours if necessary, and be prepared for some overnight travel. A valid driver's license is also required.
