Job Description
As a Specimen Processor, you will perform clerical and technical laboratory duties with precision and accuracy, ensuring high-quality service that exceeds customer expectations. You will be responsible for executing daily scheduled tasks, taking initiative within the scope of the role, and striving to improve work processes based on laboratory and client needs. Your role is crucial in providing lifesaving diagnostic services to patients and providers.
Responsibilities
- Understand and adhere to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Support leadership during audits as needed.
- Ship, receive, and track packages and specimens while maintaining sample integrity.
- Receive, classify, and process specimens accurately and expediently.
- Inspect specimens and paperwork for accuracy and acceptability.
- Ensure samples are handled and stored at appropriate temperatures.
- Perform data entry functions accurately using appropriate systems.
- Proofread work for content, spelling, accuracy, and document format.
- Maintain sample integrity and ensure proper identification of all specimens.
- Prepare samples for laboratory testing as needed.
- Perform reagent preparation when required.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- Identify and document sample issues or discrepancies, resolving them with clients as appropriate.
- Respond to telephone calls and email requests professionally and courteously.
- Research and resolve customer issues promptly.
- Provide exemplary customer service through written and verbal communication.
- Maintain organization of departmental records.
- Support the maintenance of reagent and supply inventory.
- Work weekend and holiday rotations as scheduled.
- Train others on job tasks as assigned.
- Maintain all applicable competencies and continuing education credits.
- Comply with all standard operating policies and procedures.

High School diploma with 6+ months of work experience in production or healthcareAssociate's degree in life science with retail or fast-paced experienceBachelor's degree in a science-related fieldNice to have : phlebotomy, processing, or healthcare experienceWork Environment
This position requires working the 3rd shift, either Wednesday to Saturday or Friday to Monday from 8 : 00 pm to 6 : 30 am, including rotating holidays. The lab is divided into three areas : a reference lab, HLA (DNA testing), and testing labs, servicing various regions. The dress code includes scrubs or business casual attire with long pants and comfortable, clean, close-toed shoes. Equipment used includes centrifuges, freezers, refrigerators, pH meters, and microscopes. Overtime is not likely but additional hours may be available.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $21.31 / hr.
