University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown (located at 500 E. Market Street, Iowa City, IA) is a 194-bed hospital that became part of Iowa's only comprehensive academic health system on Jan. 31, 2024.

Intensive Care Unit

The ICU at the downtown campus specializes in the care of the moderate to complex medical, surgical and cardiovascular diagnosis using a multidisciplinary collaborative team approach. The majority of our diagnosis include but not limited to respiratory failure, sepsis, DKA, CVA, CHF, AMI with PCI, AKI, ETOH withdrawal, overdose, recovery from general or orthopedic surgery. Intensive therapeutic modalities that include inotropic / vasoactive medications, mechanical ventilation, CRRT, IABP, Impella and transvenous pacemakers

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking Staff Nurses (RN) for the Downtown Campus Intensive Care Unit.

Characteristic Duties of our Staff Nurses include but are not limited to :

• Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness
• Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations
• Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings
• Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes
• Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents / reports interventions and patient / family response
• Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan
• Develops, coordinates and implements transfer / discharge planning throughout episode of care
• Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and / or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions

Percent of Time : 60%

Schedule : Night shifts, Monday-Friday, 1900-0730, rotating holidays, possible weekend coverage.

Location : Iowa City, IA

Salary : $61,183 minimum at 100% effort to commensurate

SEIU Pay Plan :

Pay Differentials : Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts.
