Job Description
Business Oregon, the state’s economic development agency, is currently hiring an Industry Communications Coordinator (Public Affairs Specialist 2). The person in this key communications role will leverage creative writing and communication skills to execute strategies that promote the outcomes of Business Oregon’s work assisting businesses throughout Oregon. You’ll also promote Oregon as the ideal business location, highlighting key industries growing in the state.
Responsibilities include promoting economic development tools, fostering collaboration among economic development organizations, and showcasing Oregon’s competitive advantages. The role will also manage social media content, coordinate regional visits for agency leadership, and provide general communications services such as drafting success stories, recommending community outreach, and crafting press releases.
Position is hybrid; remote work is encouraged, with one to two in‑person days per week near the office.
What You Will Do
Tell Our Story : Publicize outcomes from agency programs and services that support Oregon industries. Write compelling success stories and other content that highlight the positive economic impacts of Business Oregon’s work, demonstrating how our tools, services, and partnerships help Oregon businesses thrive.
Lead Business Development Marketing Campaigns : Execute strategies outlined in the agency communication plan and deliver branded campaigns that support business retention, expansion, and recruitment efforts across the state.
Back Our Story with Data : Collect and analyze rankings, statistics, and facts that showcase Oregon’s competitive business advantages. Combine data-driven insights with creative storytelling to produce content for publications such as news releases, presentations, advertisements, brochures, web pages, and other communication materials.
Manage Social Media Campaigns : Develop and coordinate social media campaigns that promote the agency’s work and success stories. Collaborate with internal teams and partner organizations to gather content and apply best practices for digital engagement.
Plan and Coordinate Regional Visits : Work with Regional Development Officers and the communications team to organize visits for agency leadership to communities across Oregon, meeting with local partners, touring projects, and highlighting successful initiatives.
Ideal Candidate
Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication, delivering clear and consistent messaging across platforms and translating complex topics into accessible, plain language.
Proven ability to develop and execute multi-channel marketing campaigns, including social media and email platforms, while applying storytelling and creative writing techniques.
Experience working with CRM systems, e‑marketing tools, and content management platforms, with the ability to collect and analyze data for use in communications strategies.
Strong project management skills, coordinating multi-organization projects and maintaining accurate records.
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or related field AND two years professional level experience in Public Relations or Affairs.
OR five years experience directly related to the position under recruitment; two of the five years must have been at the professional level.
