Job Description

This opportunity is open only to individuals who currently hold an active U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) or NATO security clearance at the required level. Engagement will be under a 1099 / Business-to-Business (B2B) contractual arrangement not a W-2 employment position. As this is a B2B / 1099 engagement, benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plans are not provided. Contractors are responsible for managing their own taxes, insurance, and other business obligations in accordance with federal and state requirements.

An innovative engineer with a degree in applied sciences, engineering, or technology, and a proven record of supporting emerging technologies in defense or NATO projects. The ideal candidate has hands?on experience with prototyping, technology demonstration, and applied research in areas such as AI, robotics, C4ISR, or advanced communications.

The candidate should demonstrate the ability to transition research into practical solutions, working with stakeholders to evaluate and integrate new technologies into military and multinational environments. Strong adaptability, problem?solving, and cross?domain technical knowledge are essential.

Search Focus : Applied technology engineers with NATO experimentation or R&D project experience.

DUTIES / ROLE

• Deliver hardware and integrated technology solutions to support small?scale innovation projects in domains such as robotics, autonomous systems, IoT, radio links, and sensing.
• Support operational use of these solutions in experimentation and contribute to rapid adoption of new technologies in military contexts.
• Design and prototype electronic and electromechanical components using 3D printing, PCB design, soldering, and related fabrication methods.
• Integrate electronics with software and networks, ensuring secure and resilient system behavior.
• Apply knowledge of AI on the edge, machine vision, and advanced sensors to practical solutions.
• Document solutions in clear technical documentation, user / admin guides, and step?by?step instructions in platforms such as Confluence.
• Collaborate closely with cross?functional teams, including software developers and operational users, to deliver integrated solutions.
• Maintain awareness of technology trends (robotics, IoT, AI, sensing, automation) and evaluate applicability to NATO missions.
• Employ Agile, Design Thinking, and iterative prototyping methods to explore and validate innovative concepts.
• Perform additional tasks as directed by the COTR related to innovation support.
• As directed by the COTR, travel on official business in support of ACT both within and outside NATOs boundaries for up to 30 days per year. The contractor shall be responsible for completing a Contractor Travel Request Form and following the ACT Financial Manual Chapter 24 Contractor Travel.
