Pre-K Special Education Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and equity-driven Pre-K Special Education Teacher for a full-time position in Lancaster, CA. The teacher will report to the Director of Special Education or the Site Administrator. The primary responsibility of this role is to support early learners with exceptional needs, ensuring compliance with the California Education Code, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and local SELPA guidelines. This position emphasizes conducting developmental assessments, providing individualized instruction, and collaborating on service delivery within both inclusive and specialized early childhood education settings.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment and Identification

  • Conduct formal and informal assessments, such as the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP), Brigance, Developmental Assessment of Young Children–Second Edition (DAYC-2), and Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales, to determine student eligibility and inform the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Collaborate closely with school psychologists, speech-language pathologists, and other service providers during initial evaluations as well as triennial re-evaluations.
  • Ensure that all assessments are conducted in accordance with California Department of Education (CDE) standards and within required timelines.

Instructional Delivery

  • Develop and implement instruction aligned to each student’s IEP, utilizing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and evidence-based early childhood strategies.
  • Integrate sensory, motor, communication, and social-emotional supports into daily classroom routines to enhance student engagement and learning.
  • Utilize play-based and developmentally appropriate practices that reflect California’s Preschool Learning Foundations.

    • Collaboration and Teaming

  • Actively participate in IEP meetings, transition planning processes (including transitions from Individualized Family Service Plans [IFSP] to IEPs, and from Pre-K to Transitional Kindergarten / Kindergarten), and multidisciplinary team discussions.
  • Work in partnership with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to support students’ inclusive access to the general education curriculum.
  • Engage families as active partners in the educational process, ensuring communication is culturally and linguistically appropriate.

    • Compliance and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate student records in accordance with CDE, SELPA, and district requirements.
