The Chicago State University Dean of Student Success provides leadership in the design, implementation, and assessment of comprehensive, student-centered programs and services that foster undergraduate student success at Chicago State University.

Emphasizes the use of data to inform, guide, and continuously improve student success strategies and outcomes. Partners with institutional stakeholders to co-create strategic goals, objectives, and metrics to advance retention, persistence, and graduation rates. Leads cross-functional teams to support advising, retention, persistence, and timely degree completion, with a focus on first-year students, undeclared majors, students on academic probation, and other at-risk populations.

The Dean of Student Success reports directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. Collaborates with College Deans, Academic Department Chairs, Enrollment Management, Financial Aid, Athletics, Housing and Residence Life, Student Engagement, Career Services, and Institutional Research. Supervises Directors in the following areas : Academic Advising and Student Support, Learning Assistance Center, Retention and Student Success, Rise Academy, Educational Opportunity Center / TRIO, and Upward Bound / TRIO. The Dean is also responsible for providing direct oversight for other strategic student success initiatives such as leading the Student Success Task Force; co-leading New Student Orientation; and specialized grants and scholarship initiatives. Job Description

• Use data-driven and data-informed decision-making to develop, evaluate, and enhance student success strategies. Leverage institutional and disaggregated data to identify barriers, inform policy and practice, and improve outcomes in retention, persistence, and graduation.
• Co-create strategic goals, objectives, and success metrics with internal stakeholders to advance undergraduate student retention, persistence, and completion. Integrate data insights into regular planning, assessment, and reporting cycles.
• Provide executive oversight of units and programs including Academic Advising, Academic Probation, Undeclared majors, SuccessU, Learning Assistance Center (Tutoring), Rise Academy, Retention and Student Success, TRIO Programs (Upward Bound and Project SUCCESS / Educational Opportunity Center).
• Guides timely submission of program data relevant to student success, including ongoing academic progress, persistence, retention, and degree completion.
• Conducts needs-based assessments of early warning programs and processes and leads restructuring efforts with Directors of Academic Advising and Student Support, Director of Retention and Student Success, as well as other campus units.
• Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of student success strategies to improve retention, persistence, and graduation outcomes for all undergraduate students.
• Co-lead New Student Orientation with the Dean of Students and Enrollment Management team, ensuring alignment with institutional goals for onboarding first-year and transfer students for success.
• Manage and assess institutional grants and scholarship initiatives including PELL55, Hope Scholars, ComEd Scholars, and other Student Success awards.
• Collaborate with Institutional Research and IT to maintain timely and accurate reporting on student outcomes and performance indicators.
• Chair or co-chair relevant task forces (e.g., Student Success Task Force) and represent Student Success on university-wide committees.
• Supports the Provost and senior leadership on opportunities for grants and external fundraising for student success programs.
• Prepare and present regular reports and briefings to the provost and external stakeholders related to student success metrics, grant deliverables, and program outcomes.
• Explores and develops additional and / or alternative student academic support resources.
• Manages program budget and purchasing of program supplies.
• Promote collaborative student support efforts with key partners including Financial Aid, Counseling, Wellness, Affinity Centers, Athletics, and Residential Life.
• Oversee professional development and training of staff within Student Success units.
• Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree required.
• Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in student success, academic advising, or related student services within higher education.
• Demonstrated ability to support first-generation, low-income, and diverse student populations through data-informed interventions and holistic support.
• Experience managing grants and student success programs with measurable outcomes.
• Proficiency in data systems such as Argos, Banner, DegreeWorks, Navigate360, and Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Qualifications
• Doctorate degree required from an accredited college or university in higher education.
• Experience with student information systems Banner and Moodle.
• Experience with supporting success of students at a Minority-Serving Institution. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Deep understanding of student retention theory, first-year experience best practices, and holistic student support strategies.
• Advanced skills in strategic planning, data analysis, and the ability to make data-informed decisions to guide and improve student success initiatives.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex student success programs and initiatives.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate findings and influence institutional change.
• Familiarity with educational data assessment tools, institutional effectiveness practices, and university policies.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and supporting underrepresented, first-generation, and diverse student populations.
