About the role

Anthropic is seeking a Policy Counsel to support our public policy and legal initiatives at the intersection of AI technology and regulation. As a member of our legal team youll work cross-functionally to navigate emerging policy challenges and help build and advocate for frameworks that promote responsible AI development. This is an exceptional opportunity to tackle novel legal and policy questions while contributing directly to the future of AI governance.

Responsibilities :

• Support the development of AI governance frameworks that align with evolving regulations industry best practices and global standards
• Monitor and analyze emerging legislative and regulatory developments related to AI
• Provide legal analysis and advice to the External Affairs team and other Public Policy stakeholders
• Partner with Public Policy and technical teams in developing practical policy guidance that is informed by a deep understanding of our products
• Assist in drafting policy positions responses to regulatory inquiries and advocacy materials
• Help manage relationships with policymakers industry associations and other external stakeholders

Role-specific policy : For this role we expect all staff to be able to work from our San Francisco office at least 3 days a week though we encourage you to apply even if you might need some flexibility for an interim period of time

The expectedbase compensation for this position is below. Our total compensation package for full-time employees includes equity benefits and may include incentive compensation.

Annual Salary :

$265000 - $320000 USD

Logistics

Education requirements : We require at least a Bachelors degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Location-based hybrid policy : Currently we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However some roles may require more time in our offices.

Visa sponsorship : We do sponsor visas! However we arent able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact advancing our long-term goals of steerable trustworthy AI rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. Were an extremely collaborative group and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such we greatly value communication skills.
