FPDC is a service-oriented group within the Administration & Finance Division, responsible for the planning, design, and construction of campus facilities. Position Summary :
Under the General direction of the Associate Vice President, Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction, the GIS and Graphic Specialist will oversee the development, maintenance, and application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to support campus-wide spatial data management, mapping, and visualization needs. This role will lead initiatives across Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction (FPDC) and serve as a centralized resource for digital mapping, graphic coordination, project visualization, and data analysis. The incumbent will ensure accuracy and accessibility of digital spatial data across departments, lead public-facing map products, and coordinate with stakeholders to support planning, sustainability, and capital project objectives.
Key Responsibilities :
Create and manage comprehensive GIS datasets and mapping solutions for campus infrastructure, utilities, buildings, and land use, ensuring spatial accuracy and usability across departments.
Produce static and interactive maps, StoryMaps, and web-based applications that support campus navigation, project visualization, and public engagement.
Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to validate and integrate spatial data into platforms like Facilities Link and MetaBIM, supporting real-time updates and planning workflows.
Design graphics and visual materials for FPDC reports, briefings, and State Fire Marshal submissions, adhering to campus branding and compliance standards.
Mentor student interns and collaborate with Sustainability and Academic Affairs to develop GIS projects that support interdisciplinary learning, sustainability planning, and campus development.
Minimum Qualifications :
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Comprehensive Knowledge of GIS Technologies
Demonstrated expertise in geographic information systems (GIS), including spatial data analysis, geodatabase management, and cartographic design.
Proficiency in ESRI platforms such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related tools for developing interactive maps and dashboards.
Graphic Design and Visual Communication
Advanced skills in graphic design software (., Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) to produce high-quality visual content for reports, presentations, and web applications.
Ability to translate complex spatial and project data into clear, engaging visual formats.
Web Mapping and Application Development
Experience designing and publishing interactive web maps and StoryMaps for internal and public use.
Familiarity with basic web development principles (HTML / CSS) and content management systems.
Data Integration and Workflow Management
Ability to collect, validate, and integrate spatial and tabular data from multiple sources, including FacilitiesLink and MetaBIM.
Strong organizational skills to manage real-time data updates and support planning and compliance workflows.
Effective Communication and Collaboration
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with internal departments, external agencies, and multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to present technical information to non-technical audiences and contribute to collaborative planning efforts.
Training and Mentorship
Capacity to lead and mentor student interns, fostering interdisciplinary learning and professional development in GIS-related projects.
Regulatory and Sustainability Awareness
Understanding of regulatory documentation processes, including State Fire Marshal submissions.
Knowledge of sustainability principles and how GIS supports infrastructure planning and environmental initiatives.
