Tax Manager / Director – Self-Directed Retirement Accounts

We’re a growing financial services firm that helps clients take control of their retirement investing through self-directed IRAs and alternative assets — including real estate, private equity, and small business ventures. As our client base expands, we’re looking for a hands-on Tax Manager or Director to take ownership of our tax function and help us build out a best-in-class process.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to step out of the traditional public accounting grind and into a role where your tax expertise directly impacts clients’ financial freedom.

What You’ll Do

Oversee and manage all tax compliance, reporting, and planning related to self-directed IRA accounts and investment entities.

Prepare and review returns (Forms 990-T, 1065, 1120-S , etc.) tied to IRA-owned entities and alternative asset investments.

Advise on UBIT / UBTI issues , IRA-owned LLCs , and the tax implications of various investment structures.

Work directly with clients and internal teams to ensure compliance with IRS rules while helping investors maximize their opportunities.

Research unique or complex tax questions involving partnerships, trusts, and alternative investments.

Help shape the firm’s tax strategy, processes, and systems as we continue to grow.

Mentor staff and contribute to a collaborative, forward-thinking culture.

What We’re Looking For

Active CPA license required.

4-7+ years of progressive tax experience — public accounting, financial services, or alternative investment background preferred.

Strong understanding of partnership and corporate taxation .

Knowledge of retirement account taxation, UBIT, or self-directed IRAs is a major plus.

Entrepreneurial mindset — someone who enjoys building, improving, and wearing a few hats when needed.

Excellent communicator who can explain complex concepts clearly to clients and teammates.
