POSITION DESCRIPTION :

Cass County is seeking a full time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to work in the Cass County Jail. Hours for this position include days, evenings, and weekends.

Beginning January 2025, we are seeking to expand nursing coverage hours at the jail and are specifically looking to fill two positions with fixed hours of 2 : 00 PM to midnight, working four consecutive days starting on either Sunday or Wednesday. Availability to work one of these primary schedules is specific to these two vacancies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

• Work closely with correctional staff to provide continuity of care for patients
• Contact practitioner to obtain orders
• Administer prescribed medications, treatments and other tasks as ordered by the practitioner
• Provide emergency first aid care, when appropriate
• Check and record vital signs, blood glucose checks, weight, and other diagnostic tests on-site, when appropriate
• Triage officer intake screenings for necessity and priority at sick call
• Report reactions to treatments and medications, as well as changes in the patients emotional or physical condition
• Assist in education on topics such as correctional facilities policies and discharge planning
• Record care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms
• Collaborate and coordinate multiple medical services for diagnosis and treatment, as directed by the practitioner
• Maintain aseptic techniques and infection control precautions as required
• Maintain and demonstrate working knowledge of pharmacology, including drug reaction / overdose
• Maintain and demonstrate working knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutrition
• Maintain and demonstrate working knowledge of social and behavioral sciences, particularly as applied to the correctional setting
• Recommend improved procedures, equipment, and supplies to your supervisor
• Notify supervisor of medical or security incidents
• Present / participate in education sessions
• Perform duties within the scope of practice mandated by state and local standards
• Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA practices as required by government agencies
• May be asked to train new hires and coworkers
• Any and all other duties as assigned
