About the Department and / or College

The Department of Geosciences offers academic programs in Geology / Geophysics, Atmospheric Science and Geography. The three disciplines share a common goal of understanding the physical processes that govern the state and evolution of planet Earth, the impact of earth systems on society, and the interaction between people and the environment.

Major / Essential Functions

• Conduct laboratory safety training for graduate and undergraduate students, and assist with maintaining compliance with university policies.
• Operation, maintenance of, and training of the proper use of rock sample preparation equipment such as rock saws, jaw crushers, shatter box equipment, gold tables.
• Produce petrographic thin sections for faculty and student research or classroom instruction.
• Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and / or fabricate equipment used in various department teaching and research spaces.
• Assist with maintaining and surveying department inventory records and distributing inventory tags.
• Miscellaneous and varied duties deemed necessary in support of the Department of Geosciences and Texas Tech University.

Required Qualifications

High school or equivalent and three years work experience. Additional job related education may substitute for required experience on a year for year basis.
