Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring a NJ or compact RN license and recent acute care experience.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Work in a hospital Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with medical / surgical overflow and telemetry / IMC level of care
  • Patient ratios are 1 : 4 for stepdown and 1 : 5 for medical-surgical / telemetry
  • Day shift schedule with three 12-hour shifts from 7 : 00 to 19 : 30
  • Every other weekend and holiday coverage required
  • Patients include acute care inpatients requiring telemetry monitoring, antiarrhythmic drips without titration, and complex medical / surgical care
  • Use of Epic for charting is required
  • Floating within skillset to other units when the home unit does not need coverage
  • Locals are accepted at the same rate
  • Responsible for NIHSS assessments, telemetry monitoring, and medical / surgical nursing care in a high-acuity environment
  • Must be able to manage antiarrhythmic and vasoactive drips without titration
  • Expected to provide care for patients with a broad range of acute needs including cardiac and neuro
  • RNs who worked at the health system must have been gone for at least one year to be eligible
  • First time travelers will be considered for this position
  • Must be available for half of the winter holidays (Friday / Saturday holidays)
  • No block scheduling permitted

  • Active NJ or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience required
  • At least 1 year of recent PCU experience required
  • Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and perform NIHSS assessments
  • Experience managing CVAs, feeding tube care and management, accessing ports / central / PICC / peripheral lines, starting IVs, wound care and wound vacs, and caring for cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration required)
  • Experience with Epic charting system preferred
