The primary purpose of the Architect position is to provide leadership and support in creating, managing and updating specifications and systems-based guidelines including Owners Design Guidelines, standardized room planning prototypes, and room data sheets, room finish schedules for architectural surfaces (floors, ceilings, walls, millwork), overseeing material and finish coding systems, and maintaining the institutional finish standards documentation for the Facilities Planning Design and Construction team, in concert with building engineers and project managers for all MD Anderson Cancer Center Facilities.

Job Specific Competencies

Architectural Owner Design Guidelines Manager This role is responsible for the oversight, documentation and maintenance of the Architectural and Interior Design related Owner Design Guidelines. Key responsibilities include managing and updating specifications and systems-based guidelines, including coordinating with internal SMEs and interested parties. This position will collaborate with internal project teams, consultants, and other responsible staff as well as industry contacts to ensure our ODGs are current.

Maintain and Update Room Prototypes and maintain standardized planning prototypes, and room data sheets for clinical, research, and administrative spaces. Analyze lessons learned from past projects and apply best practices to create a streamlined, repeatable design framework. Collaborate with project teams, consultants, and institutional leadership to align standards with enterprise goals.

Building Finish Standards & Specifications Manager This role is responsible for the strategic oversight, documentation, and maintenance of building finish schedules and CSI-coded product specifications for existing facilities, renovations, capital projects, and major capital programs. Key responsibilities include managing and updating finish schedules for architectural surfaces (floors, ceilings, walls, millwork), overseeing material and finish coding systems, and maintaining the institutional finish standards documentation. The position will collaborate with internal project teams and consultants to ensure consistent and efficient documentation of finishes across projects. This includes assisting in the strategic assignment of finish codes for new and renovation projects, reducing variability and supporting asset tracking through structured data tools. Experience with BIM / Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel and / or databases or asset management platforms is desired. The role participates in developing and maintaining a centralized finish inventory system similar to an FF&E database, ensuring real-time access to finish data across planning, design, and maintenance teams.

Quality Control and Improvement Collaborates with FPS Management to identify and manage information for quality control tracking. Coordinates with Planners during project close out to ensure projects are properly archived and lessons-learned are compiled. Reports on project close-out / lessons-learned to FPS leadership. Supports FPS leadership in developing educational and productivity tools for Planners based on lessons-learned.

Required : Bachelor's degree in Architecture. Three years of architectural experience, beyond receipt of degree, with three years of healthcare or research design experience. Must obtain an Architect license issued by the State of Texas within 180 days of date of entry into job.
