The Medical Humanities Program at Baylor University is pleased to invite applications for a clinical professor position at the assistant or associate level, beginning August 2026.  This position is expected to contribute primarily through outstanding teaching within the Medical Humanities Program at Baylor University, through the signature academic initiatives identified in  Baylor In Deeds.   Opportunities to contribute through clinical or scholarly efforts may be available for well-qualified candidates.  We welcome applications from those within all areas of Medical Humanities, but we are particular interested in candidates with experience and expertise in end of life issues, hospice and palliative care, and the spiritual care of patients and practitioners in the clinical setting.

Baylor University’s Medical Humanities Program ( https : / / medicalhumanities.artsandsciences.baylor.edu / ) was established in 2004 one of the very first programs offering a baccalaureate degree in Medical Humanities.  Our mission is to provide a transformational education for students seeking careers in healthcare, the medical arts and affiliated professions under the guidance of faculty who are committed to compelling scholarship and dedicated to service. Our curriculum consists of courses taught by faculty from many disciplines, including English, religion, philosophy, history, sociology, and psychology.  Central to this degree are courses that focus on the role of Christian spirituality in healthcare, the importance of the relationship between patient and practitioner, and the changing nature of healthcare in the 21st century. The faculty in our program have strong ties to the Waco medical community which allows us to offer outstanding opportunities for clinical experience, mentoring and service.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a terminal degree (such as Ph.D., M.D., D.O., D.D.S., J.D., D.Min. D.N.P, etc.) within an area of professional or academic specialization that intersects with healthcare.  Consistent with the stated mission of the University to be a world-class research institution dedicated to Christian principles and ideals, preferred qualifications for the position include one or more of the following :

• Clinical experience that may include direct patient care, medical education, healthcare administration, and / or involvement in healthcare policy.
• Pedagogical experience including the ability to teach introductory and upper-level courses and advise undergraduate research projects. Candidates who have demonstrated success in creative curricular design including online course delivery are particularly encouraged to apply.
• Active professional engagement at local, state, and / or national levels including service to the field and the community in the candidate's area of expertise.
• Demonstrable collaborative skills and collegiality, given our program's connectivity with departments and disciplines across the university
• A history of scholarly contributions, including publications, funding awards, and professional presentations.
• Familiarity and experience with the administrative dimensions of academic life.
• Experience working with interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams and pedagogical approaches that integrate the arts and humanities with medicine and the health sciences.
