About the Job
The position is annually renewable, with continuation of the appointment being dependent on satisfactory performance and available funding. Starting salary is $41,293.00, and includes full benefits.
Responsibilities :
The residency training program is designed to provide broad exposure to basic and applied aspects of veterinary pathology and to prepare the trainee for a career in veterinary pathology. Residents successfully completing the program are qualified to take the ACVP Board examination. Pathology residents develop skills in gross pathology and histopathology by participating in a busy diagnostic laboratory service. These basic pathology skills are supplemented by training in clinical and comparative pathology. Residents also participate in pathology teaching for the veterinary student pathology laboratories and instruct senior veterinary students on necropsy rotations. Residents are expected to actively participate in weekly seminars in gross, microscopic and clinical pathology and other specialty pathology rounds. A diverse faculty, including fifteen pathologists who are ACVP certified in anatomic or clinical pathology and six production animal diagnosticians support this program. The caseload includes a wide variety of domestic, wild and exotic animals, birds, and laboratory rodents submitted to the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and the Masonic Cancer Center Comparative Pathology Shared Resource. During the second half of the program the resident will also gain experience in comparative pathology and animal models of aging, and exposure to research on the biology of aging and at the interface of aging with cancer. After completion of the residency program, qualified individuals are encouraged to pursue further training with the Geropathology Grading Platform on pre-clinical models of aging, leading to a PhD degree through opportunities funded by the Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications :
Applicants must have a DVM degree or an equivalent degree from a foreign university by the start date (July 1, 2026) and must possess excellent communication skills. Preference will be given to applicants who wish to subsequently pursue the PhD degree. Individuals who have graduated from a non-English speaking veterinary program should provide GRE and TOEFL scores.
